Event: Albion Mills Christmas Shindig!

Incase you haven’t already heard, there’s a new event!

We are the chosen charity for the Albion Mills Christmas party on Friday the 11th of December at the Manor Ballroom in Ipswich. The event runs from 8pm till’ late, and tickets are just £5!

Expect Albion Mills to be covering quality music such as late-era Beatles, Neil Young, Pink Floyd and more. A few DJs will be playing all the tunes. There will also be a raffle with prizes donated from local businesses. We have all sorts of exciting entertainment lined-up!

There will also be bonus points if anyone turns up in authentic 60’s/early 70’s clothing!

It promises to be a night of great fun!

And a big thank you to Albion Mills for choosing to support us!

Thank you to Tap ‘N’ Tumbler!

We just wanted to give you another update, and give a huge thank you to “Tap ‘N’ Tumbler” in Nottingham, as they held a raffle for us as part of their Halloween gig (which was headlined by our loyal supporters, “East Town Pirates”) and raised us a brilliant sum of £137.25!!

A big thank you once again to those involved and those who contributed!

We hope to see you all again soon! Keep following us for future updates and events.

Round-up: “Battle of the Genres” 5-a-side football

On Sunday the 13th of September, we held our first “Battle of the Genres” 5-A-Side inflatable football tournament, and what a fabulous day we had. With chanting and cheering, a happy mayhem was had by all.

The “Battle of the Genres” Inflatable 5 A-Side Football Tournament has now been gallantly fought!

Who were the champions this year you wonder? This year the title goes to… The Metal Godz! Congratulations guys!

Thank you so much to everyone who turned out to fight for their music genre and came along to cheer everyone on.

A massive thanks to those that stepped in to play, especially those who joined in at the last minute.

As always, a huge thanks to the Steamboat Tavern for hosting us.

I can genuinely say that the smiles, laughter and friendly banter were everything we could have hoped for.

Thank you everyone for your continued support! Hope to see you again soon.

Alice Grange Care Home fundraises with an indoor bike ride

A few weekends ago, residents and staff at Alice Grange Care Home got pedalling to raise money for Krissy and Friends!

The group decided to hold an indoor bike ride at their care home in order to raise money for us.

The home said “they had a fantastic time and were proud to raise money for such a good cause!”

Here is one of the lovely ladies hard at work!

GBCHS events

We had a wonderful day at the Grundisburgh show on the 18th of July where we met some great people and lovely families.

Thank you to everyone we met, the supporters who attended the event and to the GBCHS team for choosing us as one of their chosen charities for 2015. We look forward to some of their other events later.

Below are some of the images from the day.

Shirley’s Head Shave

Shirley Boland is a very brave woman, who like John Adams in 2014, decided to shave off all her hair in order to raise funds for our charity at our Summer Fundraising Weekend on the 19th of July. This alone, managed to raise more than £850 so helping us to achieve the total sum of £2,376.75.

A huge thank you once again to Shirley, to our supporters and to the Steamboat Tavern for hosting.

Below are the before and after images!

July’s Fundraising Weekender!

Well, what a weekend we had between the 18th-19th of July at our Summer Fundraising Weekend at The Steamboat Tavern!

We got up to all kinds of fun! Day 1 showcased an evening of 3 brilliant local acts: Red Flag 77, Suspect Device and Casual Nausea who had everyone up, dancing and enjoying themselves. We also had a booze raffle, people in the stocks, yummy food and more! Equally, Day 2 was just as much fun, with our bouncy castle, a bungee run, boat-making and the raingutter regatta, henna tattoos, a head shave, raffles, cake stall and more!

Thanks to everyone’s overwhelming support, we have blown last year’s total out of the water! According to our current calculations, the grand total so far is £2,376.75. A huge thank you once again to everyone involved: the bands/musicians/performers, our supporters, our trustees and volunteers and finally, the Steamboat Tavern for hosting such a great weekend.

Shirley’s Head Shave @ Summer Fundraising Weekend

Shirley Boland is a very proud and dedicated supporter, and after the success of John Adams’ head shave last year at our first Summer Fundraising Weekend, she has decided to do the same to raise money for us.

She will be shaving all of her hair off on the 19th of July, at the second day of the Summer Fundraising Weekend.

We would love to encourage your generous donations. For more on how to donate: contact us, Facebook us, Tweet us, or leave a comment on the Facebook event.

Summer Fundraising Weekend

Raingutter Regatta Rules as part of the Summer Fundraising Weekend!

The first ever Krissy & Friends and Steamboat Tavern Raingutter Regatta is a boat race event open to everyone!

Entrants (teams or individuals) will need to create a boat (following the specifications below) – you are free to paint and decorate your boat as you chose and prizes will be awarded for design, as well as race winners. Boats can be constructed prior to the day or materials will be provided on the day. Sailboats will race along a specially adapted raingutter filled with water.

The race will take place on Sunday the 19th July at The Steamboat Tavern in Ipswich, as part of the Summer Fundraising Weekend: Day 2. For more information visit the Facebook event page or our events page.

All boats and Captains must be registered by 3pm in order to participate.

Trophies will be awarded to First, Second and Third place winners of both the Race and for Design, so make and name your boat, assign your captain and RACE!

Good luck!

THE RULES:

1) Boat Specifications:

  • No other form of propulsion besides the sail is allowed.
  • Length: up to 18cm (maximum).
  • Height: May not exceed 18cm from the top of the deck to the tip of the mast.
  • Sail: The sail can be made from any material, but the dimensions should not exceed 14cm high and 10cm wide.
  • Width: There is no official maximum or minimum width for the boat although the width of the raingutter is about 12cm wide and the boat must sit down inside the gutter in order to race.
  • Weight: No weight restrictions.
  • Decorations/Additions: Objects such as sailors, cannons, etc. may be added. All such decorations must be firmly fastened to the boat, and may not be placed in such a manner as to exceed the boat  dimensions as listed above.
  • Bowsprits (large spars projecting forward from the stem) are prohibited in racing competition, as they extend the overall length of the boat, providing an unfair advantage.
  • Body: The body can be made from any materials. It may be shaped, hollowed out, or built up, as long as it meets all other specifications.
  • Boat must be able to carry a Krissy & Friends / Steamboat Lego mascot (these will be provided on the day) from start to finish.

Tip – a winning raingutter racer stays on an even keel, moves in a straight line, keeps the bow above water and does not drag.

2) Inspection and Registration:

Before the race begins, all participating “Captains” must check-in with their boats. Here are the pre-race check-in details:

  • Before a boat may compete in the regatta, it is subject to a technical inspection by the Raingutter Regatta Commodore, to verify that it meets the prescribed specifications (see 1) Boat Specifications above for details). If a problem is noted, the Captain may be asked to correct it before the boat is registered.
  • When the boat passes inspection, it is then registered along with the boat name and the Captain’s name.
  • Registration cutoff will be no later than 30 minutes before race start time for all participants. Boats that have not registered by the cutoff deadline (3pm) will not race, so plan to arrive early enough to get your boat registered.

3) Race Procedure:

Every race has to have rules, and ours is no exception. Here’s what to expect:

  • Power: No motors, paddles, or other devices allowed. An unattached straw to help direct wind at the sail is allowed, but only the captain can provide the wind.
  • Each race heat will involve two equal lengths of raingutter (approximately 3 metres long) filled with water.
  • The race heat begins once the official starter has placed the competing boats against the back wall of the gutter and commands the boats to “GO!”
  • Pushing the boat forward is NOT allowed while righting a capsized or stuck boat by hand. Pushing may result in disqualification.
  • The first boat to reach the finish line (the opposite end of the gutter) is the winner of that heat. The finish line official(s) will have the final and only say in determining the winner. In the unlikely event of a tie, the heat will be rerun.
  • The race will be run as a double elimination format, with the winners of each heat advancing until the third, second, and first place winners are determined for each rank.
  • First, Second, and Third Places will be awarded either Design or Racing awards.
  • Ungentlemanly or unsportsmanlike conduct by any participant or spectator may be grounds for expulsion from the competition and/or the race area.
