Raingutter Regatta Rules as part of the Summer Fundraising Weekend!

The first ever Krissy & Friends and Steamboat Tavern Raingutter Regatta is a boat race event open to everyone!

Entrants (teams or individuals) will need to create a boat (following the specifications below) – you are free to paint and decorate your boat as you chose and prizes will be awarded for design, as well as race winners. Boats can be constructed prior to the day or materials will be provided on the day. Sailboats will race along a specially adapted raingutter filled with water.

The race will take place on Sunday the 19th July at The Steamboat Tavern in Ipswich, as part of the Summer Fundraising Weekend: Day 2. For more information visit the Facebook event page or our events page.

All boats and Captains must be registered by 3pm in order to participate.

Trophies will be awarded to First, Second and Third place winners of both the Race and for Design, so make and name your boat, assign your captain and RACE!

Good luck!

THE RULES:

1) Boat Specifications:

  • No other form of propulsion besides the sail is allowed.
  • Length: up to 18cm (maximum).
  • Height: May not exceed 18cm from the top of the deck to the tip of the mast.
  • Sail: The sail can be made from any material, but the dimensions should not exceed 14cm high and 10cm wide.
  • Width: There is no official maximum or minimum width for the boat although the width of the raingutter is about 12cm wide and the boat must sit down inside the gutter in order to race.
  • Weight: No weight restrictions.
  • Decorations/Additions: Objects such as sailors, cannons, etc. may be added. All such decorations must be firmly fastened to the boat, and may not be placed in such a manner as to exceed the boat  dimensions as listed above.
  • Bowsprits (large spars projecting forward from the stem) are prohibited in racing competition, as they extend the overall length of the boat, providing an unfair advantage.
  • Body: The body can be made from any materials. It may be shaped, hollowed out, or built up, as long as it meets all other specifications.
  • Boat must be able to carry a Krissy & Friends / Steamboat Lego mascot (these will be provided on the day) from start to finish.

Tip – a winning raingutter racer stays on an even keel, moves in a straight line, keeps the bow above water and does not drag.

2) Inspection and Registration:

Before the race begins, all participating “Captains” must check-in with their boats. Here are the pre-race check-in details:

  • Before a boat may compete in the regatta, it is subject to a technical inspection by the Raingutter Regatta Commodore, to verify that it meets the prescribed specifications (see 1) Boat Specifications above for details). If a problem is noted, the Captain may be asked to correct it before the boat is registered.
  • When the boat passes inspection, it is then registered along with the boat name and the Captain’s name.
  • Registration cutoff will be no later than 30 minutes before race start time for all participants. Boats that have not registered by the cutoff deadline (3pm) will not race, so plan to arrive early enough to get your boat registered.

3) Race Procedure:

Every race has to have rules, and ours is no exception. Here’s what to expect:

  • Power: No motors, paddles, or other devices allowed. An unattached straw to help direct wind at the sail is allowed, but only the captain can provide the wind.
  • Each race heat will involve two equal lengths of raingutter (approximately 3 metres long) filled with water.
  • The race heat begins once the official starter has placed the competing boats against the back wall of the gutter and commands the boats to “GO!”
  • Pushing the boat forward is NOT allowed while righting a capsized or stuck boat by hand. Pushing may result in disqualification.
  • The first boat to reach the finish line (the opposite end of the gutter) is the winner of that heat. The finish line official(s) will have the final and only say in determining the winner. In the unlikely event of a tie, the heat will be rerun.
  • The race will be run as a double elimination format, with the winners of each heat advancing until the third, second, and first place winners are determined for each rank.
  • First, Second, and Third Places will be awarded either Design or Racing awards.
  • Ungentlemanly or unsportsmanlike conduct by any participant or spectator may be grounds for expulsion from the competition and/or the race area.

Summer Fundraising Weekend!

It’s back!

As you may (or may not) know, almost a year ago now we pulled off our very first official event, which was our “family fun weekend”, hosting a gig on one night and a family fun day the following day.

But this year, we’re back… bigger and better!

On Saturday the 18th of July we will be hosting an evening of music with Red Flag 77, Casual Nausea and Suspect Device. Entry will be £5 on the door. Prepare yourself for loud music, food, fun, a booze raffle and more! Join the event on Facebook.

Beer Festival totals & Hidden Gardens!

Well what a brilliant weekend we’ve had…

From Thursday until Saturday we spent all our time with the wonderful folks that are CAMRA at Ipswich Town Football Clubs training pitch. It was the 32nd Ipswich Beer Festival and we were CAMRAs chosen charity.

Then to follow that, on Sunday  we had a delightful afternoon at Grundisburgh’s ‘Hidden Gardens’ event as we were also the chosen charity for their events. See more upcoming events that are part of the GBCHS Horticulture festival at www.gbchs.org.uk or on our events page.

Regarding the Beer Festival, we would like to say a huge thank you to GrapevineLive for helping us provide music at the beer festival, to Stephen Foster for an exciting music quiz and a MASSIVE thanks to all our volunteers who turned up at both events, in all weather, and donated their time and support to make these events as successful as they were. Similarly, a massive thank you to YOU, are loyal and new supporters because thank to you…

In total we have managed to raise a HUGE £1,831.40 this weekend at the Beer Festival, so once again thank you to EVERYONE who dug deep into their pockets. This is a massive amount that will go a long way to helping families in our community. On behalf of all the trustees … THANK YOU xox

GBCHS Horticulture Festival and other events!

I’m sure you’ve all been anticipating some more recent news… if you’re nodding your head in agreement then you’re in luck!

As well as our upcoming 3-day stint at the Ipswich Beer Festival, we also have several other upcoming events.

First and foremost, we are pleased to announce we are one of the chosen charities for the Grundisburgh, Burgh & Culpho Horticultural Society and they have the following events taking place to raise money for us:

  • 13 and 14  June – Hidden Gardens
  • 18  July – Village Show – including a performance from Rosie Reeves (who performed for us at our family fun day as part of our music weekend at the Steamboat Tavern in Ipswich last year)
  • 18  July – Summer Dance
  • 7  August – Evening Garden Party
  • 17  October – Pumpkin Festival

We will have representatives from our foundation at the events.  For further information visit  www.gbchs.org.uk and below are two flyers for some of the earlier events.

Secondly, we will be holding another Family Fun Music Weekend at The Steamboat Tavern on the 18 and 19 July.   There will be more information later.

Finally, all other dates for your diary, including Bury Folk Festival, Inter-Band 5-a-side Football Tournament and our first Winter Warmer can be found on the current events section of our website.  We hope we will see lots of you there!

Are you a musician? Then we need you!

Are you in a band, a singer-songwriter, a musician or performer with an acoustic bent? And are you available between the 12 and 13 June? If you just yelled “yes” to those, then we need you!

As you have probably already heard, Krissy and Friends are the chosen charity for the 2015 Ipswich Beer Festival, being held between 11-13 June at the Ipswich Town Football Club by CAMRA. (See full event details and our involvement here).

In addition to this, we are working alongside Grapevine LIVE, who are programming the acoustic stage for the event… and we need your help to find performers! Think you can help us out or know someone who can? You have until Monday the 1st of June to fill in an application form. The full details and application form are listed here on the Grapevine website. Spread the word, and join the fun!

Krissy & Friends at the Ipswich Beer Fest!

We can officially announce that Krissy and Friends (that’s us!) are the officially sponsored charity of this year’s Beer Festival in Ipswich!

We will be working with CAMRA to make the 32nd Ipswich Beer Festival family friendly.

This year’s Ipswich Beer Festival is to be held at Ipswich Town Football Club (on the Practice Pitch with access from Sir Alf Ramsey Way).

The family area will be in operation 12 June 5-8 pm and 13 June 12 noon-8pm.

We will be offering a multitude of family friendly activities to keep you and your youngsters occupied. You can try your luck at our ‘Penalty Shoot Out’ or test your creative skills at our ‘Make It, Play It’ area.  Why not ‘Have A Go’ at playing our instruments or record yourself at the ‘I Hear Me’ van. There will also be Storytelling, Mini Melodies, Majorettes, Face Painting and if that’s not enough there is a ‘Busk Stop’ to show the world your talents. We will also be collecting donations by the door if you want to help us continue to raise funds. There’s lots of fun to be had, and we’re very excited. Hope to see you there!

Our visit to EACH & 1st Birthday!

As we said before, last week (Thursday 23rd of April) we handed over our cheque of what we have raised in a year to EACH, and what a brilliant, emotive afternoon we had at EACH.

With all your continued support over the past year, we managed to raise our target and present £5,000 to the music therapy department at EACH.  Attached is an image of that moment.

Thank you to the choir who sang beautifully, and Gemma who took the time to show us around the wonderful building and The Treehouse Garden.  It was great to reminisce and return to the room where Kath and I (Krissy) first hatched the plan to start Krissy & Friends and wow,  what a way we’ve come since then!

We also made it onto the EACH website, so you can head over there to read their article.

A big thank you to all of you who turned out to our Birthday event that also happened last Thursday.  We hope you enjoyed celebrating with us and all got a piece of the Krissy & Friends cake! We are so proud and pleased of how far you’ve allowed us to come and we hope to see you again on our 2nd Birthday!

But if you couldn’t make it… once again, a huge thank you to everyone for your continued support.   However big or small your contribution, every little bit helps and we are looking forward to the exciting events we have planned for this year so keep your eyes peeled for new information… Bring it on!! xox

Krissy & Friends at EACH

Our First Birthday Party!

Can you believe that Krissy & Friends is a year old already?!

With over £6,000 in the bank and a charitable status on the way, it is more than we could have ever hoped for! If ever there was a good excuse to celebrate, this is it!

With your support, you have made it possible for us to help so many families so we would love you to join us at The Steamboat Tavern on  23rd April 2015 from 17h00 to 20h00+. This will give us the opportunity to say a big THANK YOU to you and as many of our supporters as possible. Please invite anyone you know who has helped us to make this year such an incredible start for the Krissy & Friends Foundation.

For more details on the event, see our Facebook event.

We hope to see you there!

News Updates!

We recently held a meeting, so as promised, there is indeed news! SO BRACE YOURSELVES AS WE HAVE LOTS OF IT!

On the 23rd of April (just two weeks away!) will be a very special day for us as WE TURN ONE! Yep, it will be our first official Birthday! We will be meeting and handing over the money we have raised so far thanks to your kind donations to EACH and will be even closer to being a registered charity! We will follow this exciting day by a Birthday Bash in the late afternoon/evening. Details are still being finalised, but when they are, we will create an event ASAP and YOU ARE ALL INVITED! So make a memo of the date because we’d love to celebrate with you and shake all our loyal supporters’ hands!

In other exciting news, we can also confirm that we will be in partnership with the Beer Festival in Ipswich from 11 to 13 June.  We have all sorts of plans up our sleeves which will be explained at a further date but for now, make a note these dates because we will be there and we want to see you there too!  In fact we  would love it if some of you become involved too.   Is anyone interested in a one-off volunteer job? It will be great fun, and you can give as little or as much time as you want! If you are interested or at least want more information, email us at krissy.and.friends@gmail.com with the subject “BEER FEST VOLUNTEER” or go to our contact us page.

Finally, once again, many details still need to be sorted before we can give you the full facts but save the dates of Saturday July 18 and Sunday July 19 because due to the success of last year’s gig and family day, we will be doing the same again!  On Saturday evening there will be a mix of bands with exciting raffles and yummy food while on Sunday there will be a family day with entertainment and games for all!  We hope to have an even greater success with it than last year!

We understand these are brief descriptions, but they are all still works in progress but the dates are confirmed so we figured if we gave you all an early heads up, you can jot them in your diaries and come along.  Thanks again for your continued support!

Multi-Pub Music Quiz summary!

Well what a FANTASTIC evening we had at the Multi-Pub Music Quiz on the 11th of February!
